Today my original box came for my Sega Genesis and I figured it was a good time to do a followup from my post on the Nes games I remembered completing. This time focusing on the Genesis games I remember completing. During the summer of 1991 Sega released the game Sonic the Hedgehog which was a huge success for them. There were commercials everywhere on T.V. and it really helped to sell the system and compete with Nintendo. That summer I decided it was time to upgrade, so I sold my original Nintendo in the Pioneer Shopper (classifieds paper in St. George). I then saved up my lawn mowing money all summer to make up the cost difference. I ordered my system from the J.C. Penny catalog to our store at the Red Cliffs mall. I remember it being pretty difficult to locate the system at any of the local retailers at the time. When I finally got it I was excited to finally play Sonic the Hedgehog. I remember it taking me about the whole month of August to finish the game. I also thought the black curved console looked a whole lot better than the boxy grey nintendo. However I did notice the games didn’t seem to be quite as challenging, so actually about 6 months later I switched over to the new Super Nintendo. These are the games exclusive to the Genesis that I remember completing. I’m sure there are a few more that I am forgetting.
Batman
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
Sonic the Hedgehog 1,2
Golden Axe 1,2
Last Battle
Altered Beast
Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker
Ecco the Dolphin
Revenge of Shinobi
Here is the picture of the box that came today and my Genesis that was given to me by a friend. The box also came with the original warranty cards, manuals, and plastic bags that I was not expecting to receive.
Also, for your enjoyment an original commercial for Sonic. Sega sure did try hard to make mario look uncool.
