Transformers G1 Coming Back to DVD

All I can say is it is about time this came back out on DVD. The first season of the original 1984 cartoon is coming to DVD on 6/16/2009. I expected this to happen when the 1st new movie was released, but I think it didn’t because of some behind the scenes things that happened. When the series was originally released it was put out by Kid Rhino. A few years ago they lost the license and then it went to Sony Animation. Sony was set to release the series again and even have a preview for it on the 20th anniversary DVD for the original movie. I can’t remember exactly what happened but i think it was Sony Animation was closed down or something to that effect. Then shortly after Hasbro reacquired the rights to many of their old cartoons including G.I. Joe and Transformers. Hasbro gave a sneak peak to everyone by including the first 3 episodes with the 25th Optimus Prime reissue figure. During all this time the old DVD release has shot up in price to roughly $400 for the entire original series. I was glad I bought them on DVD when they originally came out, but I’m glad to see these out there again for new fans that would want the old show.

Wal-Mart already has a listing on their site. Here is the description they have:

During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves…”The Transformers”. This is the complete first season that launched “The Transformers” entertainment franchise. It ran beginning in 1984 and introduced audiences to “The Transformers”, sentient robotic beings from Cybertron who crash land on Earth in search of Energon and must fight between two factions, Autobots and Decepticons. Includes 16 episodes from Season One on 3 Discs.
