Celebration VI Archive Party

This celebration, I had the opportunity to be a sponsor for one of the events taking place. In this case it was The Collector’s Archive/vintage podcast party. All the sponsors helped donate money to help pay for the expenses of the event as well as the items that were included with admission. It was decided that any proceeds would then go to the cause of saving the Manatee. The Manatee theme was then used for many items at the event.

The most expensive admission included one of each of these cardbacks/proofs, with a Manatee theme, as well as a Manatee inspired Power of the Force style coin. They all turned out really great and did not disappoint.

The sponsors also received a few exclusives themselves. These included a Revenge Rebel Commanatee proof, blank proof, a box with a silver and exclusive gold manatee coin, and a nice lucite star. Continue reading

Celebration CVI Room Sales

Last week I was gone on a little vacation to Florida for Star Wars Celebration VI. Now that I feel like I have a bit of time, I’m going to try and play catch up over the next while and post about some of the things that happened there. It wouldn’t be right to not talk about the collector room sales that happen late Friday night at every celebration. These originally started with collectors going room to room on a hotel floor selling off extra items they had for sale. It has grown to the point that it is no longer done that way but instead takes place in a hallway at the hotel. This is generally a good time to see a lot of things that you’ve only read about online and this time was certainly not a disappointment. There was a great selection of carded figures, loose figures, bootlegs, Proof Cards, coins, etc.

I knew this would probably be the time that I make my bigger CVI purchase, so I took my time to look around and see what everyone had. As I was looking, I saw one of the Power of the Force concept logo pieces. I’d been wanting one of these for awhile and actually passed on one earlier this year because of lack of funds. I found out the price, but decided to have one last look at everything before I knew for sure that is what I wanted. In further looking, a Model Trem Luke Jedi(Lead Bootleg from Brazil) had also caught my eye. That is something else that I wanted, but it did not have any of the accessories and I’ve told myself that when I splurge on one that I’d like it to be complete as the accessories would take forever to hunt down themselves. So in the end, I went back, did a little negotiation on the price, and bought it. Here’s a little bit of info on them for those that care to learn a little more.

Here’s a few pictures from the room sale and a little video I took.

Mountain Lion is Here!

Today, Apple officially launched OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. I’ve been using the final build for a few weeks now and it is in my opinion a solid upgrade. As the name implies, it is more of an incremental upgrade from Lion. While Lion had quite a few visual differences, Mountain Lion is more about improved integration with iCloud and the services that also work on an iOS device. Overall the system feels more refined and faster. The upgrade is also only $20, so really there is no reason not to do it.

My favorite feature that comes over from iOS is certainly the Notification Center. Before Mountain Lion, you had to glance at your email icon or listen for the new message sound to know if a new email had been received. Now with the notification center you get a nice little box that shows up in the upper right alerting you to the message, who it is from, and the subject. You can then click on the message if you want to read it or just ignore it and the notification goes away. This works with several other programs and I’m sure more will be added once apps are updated to support it.

That’s only one of the new features. Here’s a video from The Verge which gives a good rundown the most user noticeable of the changes.

Revenge Proof Sheet Framed

proofsheet
Back when I originally purchased this, I said I wanted to get it framed this year. Well, the year is halfway over and I finally decided it was time to go through with it. This is another custom job from American Frame and again I’m really happy with the work. I also like that I get to mount the piece myself so that I know no harm was done during the process. I use these archival mounting strips to do the job and they’re not that difficult to use. This time, I wanted to try and use two mats. I decided the top mat would be a red to match up with the Revenge of the Jedi Logo and then silver from the bottom mat to match the racetrack going around the image. I think it turned well and am very happy with it. I still have one more item that I’d like to get framed before the year is up, but that will have to wait until after Celebration VI.
